TakeNote

TakeNote

TakeNote is fully integrated with Take2, and provides for student evaluation of courses and teachers.

TakeNote offers you:

INSTALLING TAKENOTE

If you are already a Take2 user, then installing TakeNote is simple. We supply a CD that installs the table of evaluation statements required by TakeNote, and which modifies your Take2 program so that TakeNote becomes simply another menu option on the Main Menu.

TakeNote

If you are not a Take2 user, then the CD will install a run-time version of Microsoft Access and the stand-alone version of TakeNote.

GETTING STARTED

TakeNote comes complete with a user manual containing information on how to use the software and on why and how to gather student feedback on teachers and courses.

THE STATEMENT BANK

A key component of TakeNote is the Statement Bank, which contains over 140 statements that can be included in student questionnaires. Each question takes the form of a statement against which the student records a score to show their agreement or disagreement. The statements in the bank are categorised by type – for example "resources", "assessment", etc. – and are also classified to show whether they apply to the assessment of teachers or courses, or both.

You can of course add your own statements to the statement bank.

STUDENT QUESTIONNAIRES

Included in the TakeNote user manual, which takes the form of a Microsoft Word document, are three standard student questionnaires that you can use immediately. One questionnaire is used to evaluate courses, a second evaluates teachers, and the third evaluates both course and teacher. If you are a Take2 user you will find that the courses and teachers can be looked up from the Take2 database.

You can combine the standard questionnaire format with the statements from the statement bank (or your own statements) to create as many different questionnaires as you need.

You may also opt to include open-ended questions in your student questionnaires, and TakeNote makes provision for this too.

DATA ENTRY

Of course getting student feedback is good, but all those completed questionnaires mean a lot of data entry if you are to get useful information. TakeNote is carefully designed to reduce the data entry effort, which can all be done with the numeric keypad and an absolute minimum of keystrokes.

ANALYSIS

TakeNote provides a statistical analysis of responses to the statements on student questionnaires. The analysis includes the main statistical indicators (mean, mode, median, standard deviation) and a histogram to illustrate the distribution of responses.

You can also export the summary data into an Excel worksheet so that you can undertake more sophisticated analysis yourself.
