Take2 SQL Edition System Requirements

The following describes Meta Office’s minimum and recommended system requirements for a computer running Take2 SQL Edition.

The following specifications are based on a database of about 50 megabytes with several tables containing two-three hundred thousand records with 15-20 concurrent users. The specifications also assume that the computer is acting as a SQL server only and will have no other applications running - for example Exchange server etc.

Minimum Specification
Intel based chipset motherboard
2GIG Intel P4 Processor
500MB RAM
2 x 80GIG hard drives (hardware mirrored) 7200rpm
CDROM
Floppy drive
Microsoft Windows Server 2000
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (Standard)
DDS3 (12-24GIG) tape drive back up unit
Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)

Recommended Specification
Intel based chipset motherboard
3GIG Intel P4 Processor (AFSB)
4GIG RAM
2 x 120GIG hard drives (hardware mirrored) 7200rpm
CDROM
Floppy drive
Microsoft Windows Server 2003
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (Standard)
DDS3 (12-24GIG) tape drive back up unit
Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)

If the number of users using the server will does not exceed 50 then you could opt for Microsoft Small Business Server 2003/2008, which is cheaper than purchasing Microsoft Windows Server 2003/2008 and Microsoft SQL Server 2005. Depending on the number of users that you have you may need to purchase additional Client Access Licenses (CALs).

Note: Please be aware that SQL server 2008 is not presently certified to run Take2. This situation will be reviewed late 2009 when we have had time to evaluate the product.

Backups
Take2 provides the facility to create backups of the key database file(s) (i.e. the file(s) containing your student data) however you must still place the backup file onto some form of permanent external device - for example CDR. We can not stress enough the importance of doing regular backups to permanent backup media which is totally independent of the computer running Take2. If you do not have a current up-to-date backup of the Take2 database file(s) and your working file gets corrupted or deleted you will loose all your data - permanently.

Microsoft Office
Please note that future releases of both Take2 will require you to have Microsoft Office 2003. This requirement results from changes being imposed by government agencies in relation to electronic reporting. A new XML standard is being implemented and this requires us to move from Office 2000.

If you have Office 2007 then you will need to opt for the runtime edition of Take2 as there are performance issues running Take2 under Office 2007. For this reason we cannot recommend users install or upgrade to Office 2007.

You must have the full English version of Microsoft Office Professional installed. Meta Office does not support the Chinese edition or any other language variations of Microsoft Office. Meta Office cannot provide any support for any runtime editions of Microsoft Office.
